REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME Dec 19, 2008 9:55 pm

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Why go to Church? Dec 19, 2008 9:37 pm
1465 Views
If you're spiritually alive, you're
going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read
it. If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope!

Why Go To Church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the
editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. 'I've gone for 30 years now,' he wrote, 'and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.'

This started a real controversy in the
'Letters to the Editor' column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

'I've been married for 30 years now. In
that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals.

But I do know this.. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!' When you are DOWN to nothing... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes
the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

All right, now that you're done
reading, send it on! I think everyone should read this! 'When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, 'Jesus, could you get that for me?'

Pacific Business News (Honolulu)

Obama’s Hawaii birth certificate confirmed

The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health confirmed on Friday what Barack Obama has been saying all along: the presidential candidate was born in Honolulu.

“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate,” said Chiyome Fukino. “State law prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record.”

Citing her statutory authority to oversee and maintain Hawaii’s vital records, Fukino said she has “personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.

“No state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawaii,” Fukino added.

Lingle, a Republican, has been campaigning on the Mainland for Obama’s opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Obama, a Democratic senator from Illinois, was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu. He graduated high school at Punahou School in 1979.

LOCAL CULTURE Oct 22, 2008 1:12 pm
2450 Views

I got this article from Living in Paradise and wanted to share this with you all...so when you come to visit me no forget the local rules..

Thanks to its convenient position in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, not to mention its tropical beauty, Hawaii has attracted people from a vast array of ethnic backgrounds. This has earned its moniker as "the melting pot of the Pacific," merging the kama'aina into their own unique culture.
One of the first things newcomers notice is the way local speak thier inflections and their slang. Many locals speak pidgin, a special dialect that originated in the old plantations blending Chinese, Japanese, Hawaiian, Portugese, Filipino and English words into a new concoction of colloquialisms.
Pidgin is more than just words its's a relaxed way of talking. The first step to understanding pidgin's vocabulary and how to use it, however, can be learned through books such as Pidgin to Da Max or the Da Kine Dictionary. In addiction to dialect, locals have a different way of giving direction. Instead of using north, south, east and west expect to recieve (and give) location advice using mauka (toward the mountains) makai (toward the ocean) Ewa (west) and Diamond head (east).
When driving, giving and receiving the aloha spirit is always appreciated. Allowing pedestrians to cross the street completely before you make a trun, however is not just being courteous...IT'S THE LAW..
One very important custom is to remove your footwear before entering someone's home.
On that note ..whenever your attend a party at someone's home especially a pot luck, don't show up empty handed. If it's not a pot luck a form of food or drink for the host is always offered, even if it is not sonthing they will consume at the party.
The most important thing to remember...relax, your're in Hawaii. Share yoru customs with your neighbors as they share them with you and you just may start a new tradition.

The road to success is not straight.
There is a curve called Failure,
a loop called Confusion,
speed bumps called Friends,
red lights called Enemies,
caution lights called Family.
You will have flats called Jobs.
But, if you have a spare called Determination,
an engine called Perseverance
insurance called Faith,
a driver called Jesus,.
You will make it to a place called Success

-- My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned. I couldn't concentrate.
-- Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe.
-- After that, I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it --mainly because it was a sew-sew job.
-- Next, I tried working in a muffler factory, but that was too exhausting.
-- Then, I tried to be a chef -- figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.
-- I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.
-- My best job was a musician, but I found it hard to be noteworthy.
-- I studied a long time to become a doctor, but found I didn't have any patience.
-- Next was a job in a shoe factory. I tried but I just didn't fit in.
-- I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.
-- I worked for a pool maintenance company, but it was just too draining.
-- So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.
-- I tried working in Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.
-- I even got a job as a historian -- until I realized there was no future in it.
-- SOOOOOOO... I FINALLY TRIED RETIREMENT AND FOUND THAT I'M PERFECT FOR THE JOB!
