What are some common misconceptions about your country? This the topic for my students' next Student Newspaper issue. It lead to aninteresting discussion! Ok, me first. New Zealand? 1. We are the same as Australians (wrong!) 2. It is clean and green (wrong!) 3. It's part of Australia (wrong!) 4. It's safe (wrong!) New Zealand is a separate country and we are less competitive or pushy and more intelligent than Australians. OUr clean green image is just that - an image - and the reality is that we are no cleaner than anywhere else when it comes to espcially our lakes and waterways as an example. It is not much safer here than in other western countries so I tell my students to never go out walking at night alone. I wanna hear yours! Especialyl about Korea or Japan! |

Northern Korea: The people of northern and southern Korea share the same long >5 thousand years of history and pride, same culture, speak and write the same language. They were divided by the bigger and stronger bullying powers in the world, not by their own choice. The >5 thousand years of beautiful and yet painful history and culture will not be reduced in mere 50 years of forced division and festered mistrust. Korea does NOT have 5000 year history. that s what your highly questionable korean textbook tells you. binti, the Kims' tyranny in north has rendered an irreversible damage in the north. south koreans are probably more similar to taiwanese than they are to their northern bretheren. this is sadly the reality.

That Koreans eat dogs - TRUE/FALSE The paradox here is that those who will say that "Koreans eat dogs" in negative context will say so by assuming that dog eating is "custom" where Koreans will eat it for breakfast or for casual brunch. Their criticism is that barbarity of eating dogs is common daily phenomena in Korean society. But there are also who want to defend Koreans by claiming that eating dog is Korean "culture" and that people in Western world really don't have right to say whether it is barbaric or not. And these people normally do so by assuming that eating dog is daily phenomena and common practice where one can find "dog beef" in Korean supermarket or other Korean restaurant since it is part of "Korean culture". "If I could lead you into the promised land, i could lead you back out again."

Whoa. Korny, you're right. WTF happened here? What a mess! Owen ... why is it that every time I read a negative blog, you are somehow involved? LMAO (I'm half kidding ... )Glad to see you and DB being civil to one another. Clearly, there was a misunderstanding here and I can see where it started, but after the round of insults so freely slung, I doubt it would make any difference to highlight the specific areas. Aish Frenchy.

Owen. I don't know. I want to go and visit there, New Zealand. I've never been back to Korea so I wouldn't know and know what to share but people tell me that it changes every year. Can we just make peace? Just don't get involved anymore in my drama. If it's not directed at you, please don't participate. I thought we were cool, not friends, but cool with each other. Just stop feeding into others' hatred towards me.

Hello Binti, I'm not Korean?! *gasp* - thanks for informing me. Now I can discontinue my masquerade. Yes, Coucou is in my friends' network, and she's a very dear friend. If you don't remember if she's in yours, there's an easy way to check, isn't there??

Quoting Miss Binti. Why do many Americans "bash" the French? Have you experienced any negative behavior based on you being French? Well, Binti, I often experience stupid/non-sense/negative behavior or attack from Americans... but i really don't mind. free speech and tought are very important. One of the most common attack is: "French people were unable to defend themselves during WWI & WWII, they should kiss the A$$ of americans" or in a more explanatory way: "French are pussies, they have the white flag ready before even fighting, they are just worthless..." I don't mind their comments... usually i give an answer who, at my opinion, is "more intelligent" to their attacks. "Be proud of being American, you could have been British... thanks to some french soldiers who help you during your Independance War." And i could go further about remarks concerning French people but it's just unnnecessary... i'm sure you will understand Take care Binti.

You know... you could bash French people if you want too. LoL As QT says, we are good at 'JiveTalking' #1- French are complaining all the time TRUE (but isn'it better to complain than just sitting and following like a lamb? ) #2- French don't have a clean hygiene FALSE (give me a break on this one) #3- French women are 'hairy' FALSE (Lo ![]() #4- French are too proud of themselves TRUE/FALSE (Parisians are too proud, otherwise yes I'm proud to be french/european, France is a country of history, architecture, culinary tradition... yes, France is one of the prettiest country) #5- French are good to 'JiveTalking' TRUE/FALSE (Well, we are openminded and straight-forward in our talk, if you don't like it...) Have you experienced any negative behavior based on you being French?

Hello all! Smiley….is back! I’ve actually spent the last few months shooting up, which is why I must have thought that Binti’s other posts were eloquent. But what a change in the last few months! Binti, are you ok? I’m sorry if your poor little itty bitty ego has been bruised in some way, causing you to become so rude and arrogant….would you like to talk about it? I’m here for you, my dear; I’ve actually helped quite a lot of people who suffer from delusions of adequacy in the professional world. Oh, and by the way….”My own family have originally come from northern side of Korea”….I believe you meant to say, “My own family is originally from the Northern part of Korea.” However, I’m sure that was an honest mistake.

Binti dong moo, what part of what I said is wrong? educate, don t just insult. I do realize that it has something to do with her French/Korean style English. Anyhow, the two seem to be the prime examples of people one should refrain from discussing politics with.

Dear Coucou, My own family have originally come from northern side of Korea. Please do not tell me they are different in spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Yes, they, each state, do have their own accents but the language itself is Korean. Remember, the Korean language was invented way, way before the 50 year division. And Wikipedia is not considered a valid scholarly reference. It would be insulting to use Wikipedia as a reference for the Korean language and history. I'm certainly not having a intention to insult for anything or for any reason. I do not have a time to insult something or someone in spending my spare time. I don't see why it can be a insulting because I refered to Wikipedia. Yes,I picked as a reference because I thought because it is that we always can find very easily. There are many different articles that can also say as well. I'm not here to show all the proof. I'm not here to be perfect. I'm not here to insult something. I may wrong and I may right. You also expressed your opinion in refering your own family. I also have my part of family came from Northern Korea long time ago. But I won't say like you said. Because it won't be either the good reference. We just have own way to see and understand. Yes, We invented own our language before the 50 yrs. Thanks for reminding me. I guess I learned it enough in Korea for many years, even to know who was the king in that period. But please don't tell me either that it is always same as before. We all change by time. we all adjust things by situation and by own revolution. What I understood is from what I read and what I heard. If it is wrong that's my part. There are some differences in Korean language between North & South. I do not think it is something to insult in refering some example. It is very interesting things to know and understand things especially since we are not communicative in this real world. I'm kind of disappointed that you took this as insulting. Have you ever seen me insulting something with purpose in the blog? If I don't understand things well and posted comment in a wrong purpose, then I'll assume it. Because I might not clearly understood and compared the things here. But I don't deserve to be considerate by someone who is saying that what I'm saying can be insulting. This will be my last comment for this matter. Peace,

that Korea has 5000 years of history is a myth. also, koreans are not divided, rather, north korean government is the worst totalitarian rulership in the world. They segregate the country from the rest of the world.

North & South Korea use the same Korean Language : (Wrong) People say that we all using same language which can be very true. BUT!! The Korean language used in the North and the South exhibits differences in pronunciation, spelling, grammar and vocabulary. If you want to know more example of this, you can even search on Wikiperdia. My own family have originally come from northern side of Korea.
