DB,

I've been to most of the states on your list and they all have good and less good points (didn't want to say bad). you have to decide which area has the most of what you want. i like 4 seasons, the outdoors and cultural diversions (museums, theater, dancing, etc.) but i also like being in an area where i can have one most of the time and be able to, in a short time, drive to them. if not the washington state area then i would live in the california high desert again. ocean 2hrs sw, mountains 1hr s, Lost wages (las vegas) 3hrs ne and LA 1.5hrs sw. a little of everything. just your style makes decision

DB - there are many accounting firms in Hawaii. Some are local and others national. If you are serious about checking into it, I can ask my cousin who works for a national accounting firm.

Instead of the States why not come to Canada? Its a whole different life up here. I am in Calgary and the economy is great there are too many jobs for the amount of people, we have oil and gas, medical, technology, most head offices for major companies are in Calgary (as far as Canada goes anyway), we are about 45 minutes to the mountains, 2 hours to the US border and about a 1.5 hour flight to the west coast (Vancouver). Calgary has it all and Canada rocks! We even have free health care (not completely free in Alberta yet but it will be soon).
Cheers

For me, I dont really know. I thought about Virginia, perhaps , or Washington (state and/or D.C. ) *hehe* ^^

But in the end, it's all a matter of preference and your position/progress in life. Right now, I'm feeling like a free spirit. So , I'd like to travel and visit other places before I settle down, transfixed, to any place.

(Yes, I know this does not help you very much)
