Mark Spitz is great. I remember wacthing him on TV when I was very
young. Phelps has broke most of his old records already. That is a
shame he was not invited !

I agree with Bun Cha. Well said man. "Someone" clearly does not understand the situation. I definitely see some ignorance in "someone's" statement. GoRealLA~ I love LA

They should have invited him. Spitz does not seem like a bitter old man, and actually it would have been great publicity and a cool statement to have a champion from one generation present to see the arrival of the champion of the next. I think though, more people are interested in the 'arrival of the chinese on the world stage'. I think it is total nonsense, as China has always been on the world stage, and has contributed as much to the world as any other nation has through its rich culture, and great history.

He was very generous when he acknowledged Phelps on the TV interchange. He fell out of the limelight for a long time. Cher tried to use him on her TV programe, but you could see that he wasn't comfortable in front of a camera. I have seen him on magazines with a few other atheletes with major or minor health problems. Louganis, Spitz,Jenner, and a few others.
