binti... just don't read and/or respond to long blogs. Long blogs taking up lots of paper is irrelevant unless you somehow have a reason to print it out... It s a free world. People have rights to waste time is they so choose, no?

Hello Binti,
you're right about questionning the lenght of some blogs.
But, personally, i don't mind a long blog when the subject is interesting and the writting shows qualities
Concerning the use of "flashing" colors, you're right on the target.
Have a beautiful day

A political analyst named Noam Chomsky once said about mainstream media in relation to the time limit of answering a question.

He said time limit itself isn't necessarily a problem. There are lots of conventional questions that only deserve short and simple answers. However as Chomsky argued that when a journalist from mainstream media questions something that are highly misunderstood and disregarded, short and simple answers are very difficult because of the necessity of historical reference and proper contextualizing of issues.

So if a journalist expect a guess to answer a question that really need some serious analytical depth and yet demand to be answered within 20 second frame, a journalist is actually putting restriction on what one can say and what one need to say.

Chomsky claimed only way to answer such a conventional question that really need to be viewed under different lights through more in depth understanding within 20 minutes frame, one can only reply by going back to conventional assumption without given enough time to explain more systematically. According Chomsky, this is how mainstream media operates.

They operate in certain way to restrict one's own ability to answer one's own view to fit their agenda. And in result they restrict general understanding of issues by framing the time lines in such demarcated structure.

Now some may be able to write a blog within less than 300 words and some don't. Some write an issues that need far more than 300 words to frame the discourse which he or she feel is proper. Some of us writes some mindless comical blogs strictly for entertainment. And some writes issues that really needs longer and very ....complex discourse that deals with real issues.(Also considering the fact that there are people here who are interested in issues related with Korea)

I think majority of people in this site writes short blogs and it is only small minority of people who writes a long blog.(Like myself, that is why my blog is called "Vita brevis, longa ars" which means in English "Life is short but art is long" and I even have subtitle "Blog for all and blog for none" which is originally from the subtitle of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's "Thus Spake Zarathustra", "Book for all and book for none." Because I believe my blog is for everyone but not everyone can read it) So I personally believe this shouldn't even be a question.

Plus, even if vote come out in favor of writing under 300 words(or what ever), I will most likely ignore the vote anyway. lol

bin--

what do you say for those that have the same blog topic over and over again?

it seems that owen and his two best female friends noni and najian love to talk about me.

just a thought...

DB,

It may be that Najlian has misunderstood your blog, "Damage control" for she said something about "KFF hypocrisy." She seemed to have been defending Noni on Memorie's blog, "Rage," after Memories banned her from that particular blog, and Najlian may have thought your "Damage control" blog was about the issue between Memories and Noni. I do not really know, but that's the impression I got as I read these blog entries.

As for your part, I'd just ignore Owen and others that you mention... at least until it blows over. Most of it seems to have started from misunderstanding.

So, NoniJuice and Najlian are the same person.
Najlian said in Owen's blog that she herself wrote the post, "The One You Feed" on the Magazine section. That post was written/posted by NoniJuice.

DB ... my hunch is that most people skip over Nonajlian's blogs.

Binti ... thanks for shedding a light on blog ettiquette. Somehow, I doubt the ones it's meant for will "get it."

Je te veux ... you are absolutely correct.

Ren ... I agree. The ridiculously colorful and multi-sized fonts can use some toning down.

Binti, why are you proposing that? This is not an academic magazine about "effective writing". This is just a Magazine where everyone can write whatever she/ he wants. Lets keep it that way without any boundaries. If a blogpost is to long you can just pass it by, its up to you.

You're taking up some kind of petition now?

*sigh*

I won't speak for other bloggers. I believe my shorter posts are the appetizers that make my readers crave more. My longer entries should always reward the reader for investing the time. I only aim to please to people who WANT to read me; nobody is being forced to.

If I wanted to maximize hits and comments, I'd become a beautiful Asian female, post a beautiful Asian female photo, and write one paragraph each day that is almost nothing but inter-site gossip and mundane hair-twirling, aimed exclusively at the endlessly fertile "horny internet guy" demographic.

lol, Brian.

As I may have mentioned, I have read many complaints about "long blogs" (I do not know if they were aimed at a specific blogger, some tell me yes) and that's where I got the idea to post this entry.

Funny... that beautiful inter-site gossiping hair-twirling Asian female.
